Video Analysis: Jameer Nelson’s Big Night Against the Charlotte Bobcats

Jameer Nelson was one of the lone bright spots on offense for the Orlando Magic against the Charlotte Bobcats in Game 1, amidst Dwight Howard‘s foul troubles and Vince Carter‘s shooting woes. Nelson was able to put on a show in front of a nationally televised audience, reminding everyone why he was an All-Star in 2009 by scoring 32 points on 10-of-18 shooting and terrorizing the Bobcats’ defense in the process.

I compiled a video to show the types of plays Nelson got his points from. For instance, note how Nelson and Rashard Lewis are able to force the switch on the 1/4 pick and roll with Boris Diaw to create a mismatch in Nelson’s favor on two separate possessions.

@Kevin

Figured the song was appropriate, given the circumstance.

If you watch that sequence closely, you'll see head coach Stan Van Gundy frantically wave at Lewis (I presume) to clear out since Nelson had the mismatch on Diaw.

@derekk

Yeah, it all depends on how the Bobcats defend Nelson in the PNR in Game 2. That will, more or less, dictate how the Magic will operate on offense. I have a feeling Howard is going to be involved a lot more on the low block.

E-mail me and I'll tell you.

Yeah, the Bobcats did a much better job of keeping Nelson in check in the second half. Derekk made a similar observation in the recap. Great minds think alike.

That was a nice performance by Jameer, but 24 of his points came before halftime. In the second half, Charlotte did a much better job keeping him in check.

Ladies Love Cool Jameer.

Nice video. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get the game footage?

Dude, Nelson and Pietrus are my all time favorite players, making that game all the more enjoyable to be at (even with Charlotte FT shooting back into the game). Great vid E, loved the music.

They "trapped" Nelson in the 2nd half more I think, so I want SVG to adjust to that, More 1/4 should work if Nelson can somehow find a passing angle out of it, Rashard will be spot up open, or have a small mismatch to drive or dribble in for a post up.

A thing of beauty. That shake n bake, turn around, fade away J over Diaw is ridiculous. Ha. Ridiculous. Espescially because it starts with him forcing the swith and sending his point man on his merry way guarding Rashard. Awesome.

"Don't call it a comeback" - perfect.
