smith next time you to ask howard would he like to see a trade not nelson.i think you a personly tring to run howard out of this town.stop tring to get your friends from golden state.we dont want names that were good ten years ago.trade for players that can make a team and play something called D.right now we got to many individiual who think they can knock down threes.
Say goodbye to D12 the magic arent making the moves they need to keep him and it breaks my heart i love the guy and the team but he's gonna pull a shaq just leave magic will be back to there awful ways if Dwight leaves so if they dont get a big name say goodbye to this franchise i mean how many winning seasons did they have before dwight came and after shaq left ZERO. otis better do somthing
I am a magic fan,but i feel the magic are a joke.smith is just going to sit in his office and do nothing this trade deadline.magic should trade for CP3,zach and another big man;but no.magic are going to trade next year;and this are the following players going to be traded howard, neslon,jj and bass for a brunch a stupid players like denver did.this is another shaq deal.the only thing magic are going to be looking for in the furture is 1 pick in the draft.maybe this time around the new shaq and howard player will win a champion;and maybe we keep this 1 pick.no disrespect to shaq and one of the greatest big man to play this game D12.i as a magic fan know this trade deadline was are last hope to keep howard.mark my words this will happen; and i hope ''GM'' smith will read this.
Like it or not, I think this is pretty much the team we have to cheer for. On paper, our roster still looks promising. We just need to hope and pray that they bring their A+ games come playoff time. I don't think it will automatically fix things doing any more trades. I think the team needs to focus on fixing themselves and figure out what's wrong with their effort.
we need to fire Otis Smith we had plenty of time and assets to make a deal that would of helped our team out. All he has managed to do is make us worse defensively and hurt us financially!! FIRE SMITH!!!!!
Wow, Perkins is gone. The Celtics clearly don't see the Magic as a threat, if they can even make it to the second round.
Forget how your teammates are playing, Dwight. There's no one in this conference that can guard you. Time to shut up and take over the playoffs.
Why not trade duhon for Corey Brewer, Knicks are looking to free some space to get a big and we definitevely need a perimeter defender!
Get corey brewer good from the knicks, I understand they are trying to sell him to make room, good wing defender who will work under van gundy
I think its sad that there isn't more being done to help dwight. If dwight was not in the picture magic would be like cleveland. We don't need three point shooters. One or two not a whole squad. Get a point guard who can actually create and a power forward with inside presence to truly bring a inside outside play style and most importanly help dwight out. Our defense is like are three pointers streaky! Otis smith has thirty min to make something happen or don't be surprise when were knocked off in the second round. Mark my words!
Why do we hang on to nelson? He has to be one of the worst defensive point guards I have ever seen!!
I appreciate the typical alarmist nonsense that I've come to expect from fans of the franchise, but here's the deal.
Mid December, having lost a number of games to a number of teams we shouldn't have lost to, Otis Smith was put in a no-win situation. He wanted to right the ship and prove that the Magic were still a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, given the albatross that was Rashard Lewis' contract and the state of VC's game, he was going to have to part with some things (Gortat, Peaches) he didn't want to part with in order to roll the dice.
This was not a situation where he said 'oh well this could be cool I guess'. He had to. Rashard Lewis either didn't feel like trying anymore or had simply lost his stroke, but he was done. Moreover, he was preventing Ryan Anderson and Branden Bass from becoming stand out forwards. He had to go. VC I feel was a bit more questionable, but I'll buy into the idea that he also had to go.
Point being, the trade was only ever going to be a roll of the dice. The major names in the trade have at some point in their career commanded enough respect to suggest that bringing them in and putting around the best center in basketball could be the cure. And, for a while, it was. I don't remember this inane amount of end of the world attitude when we had won nine games straight.
The fact is, we have the talent on this Magic team. It's there. Dwight said it best. It's a matter of effort, of going out there and sticking to defensive assignments, of putting forth effort, of not just throwing up three pointers. If no trade is made today, whatever, no trade is made. The pool of talent is there. It just has to be forced to work. If it doesn't, guess what? We're done in the second round, possibly the first if we don't end up against the Hawks. If people rise to expectations we're a championship team.
Where do you fit in? Quit trying to fire Otis Smith BEFORE THE SEASON IS OVER. Does anyone remember Boston last season? The team looked to be dying in the second half. They ended up beating us, the better looking team and almost sticking it to the Lakers in seven games.
Otis Smith is not to blame here. He took a gamble that what we got could work, and at times it has. If he had done nothing, I promise you we wouldn't even be in talks of contention.
If you truly believe that this current roster can win a seven game series with the elite teams then your very optimistic then most. Magic lack consistancy there just a streaky team. With out the three point shot its an automatic lost. Sure they can win a game our two but with out help for dwight howard the magic are a second round team. They need another inside presence to help dwight. That with bass at mid range then and only then our three point shooters become a threat. Trust me when the celtics (i hate) or miami defends the three point line and single coverage dwight. Its over another season gone and another reason for dwight to leave
The Celtics just traded away all of their size. They don't think the Magic are legit, I can't wait to see Howard take it to them in the playoffs.
I try to be objective looking at all of this, but am I the only one that does not let one game dictate that we can't win a championship? Yes, it'd be irresponsible to look at what's happened in the past month or so of games and say that they're all flukes, but this team has decidedly beat LA, split San Antonio (1-1), Dallas (1-1) are competitive in most of their games against Boston (1-2), Miami (1-2), and Chicago (1-1). Yes, they are (6-7) against the elite of the NBA, but that's pretty darn good considering what's happened this season. Yes, the Magic's defense (outside of Howard) is abysmal and the Magic are no sho-in for the Finals, but let's be real here: the Magic are still contenders and you have to wait and see how this shakes out. I put faith in Van Gundy to use what he has to continue to make this team pretty darn good.
Basically to all of you doom-sayers: The Magic have a lotttt to work on, but don't feed into the hype that Dwight's leaving us. This media around every all star leaving doesn't apply to Dwight just yet. Let the big man play and help his team win a championship without worrying about things outside of his control.
It's fans like you guys that will help create a detrimental atmosphere around our team with such knee-jerk reactions to games like this. It's just annoying.
PS Eddy's commentary is rarely emotional reactions to the game but based in logic and stats, i love it. If you guys want to mud-sling about something, back it up with facts, not tweets from "so called experts" that just hear rumors.
the trade earlier in the year didnt make since. why pay Gilbert Arenas all that money to come off the bench. And why trade Gortat when we just matched Dallas's offer last year
I agree with Marty. Basically, trading for VC derailed any hope of us returning to the Finals in the near future. Then trading him away with Gortat...no comment. I never thought I would say I miss Shard and VC. Bye bye Otis, clean up those golf clubs.
I doubt it. Otis should be gone though. He's probably going to pick up Troy Murphy. I still believe that those 2 trades earlier were needed. The problem being is that J-Rich should have been traded again. I think with his expiring that Orlando could have gotten something. The way SVG has been utilizing him too makes me not really want him even if he decided to sign an extension. So here goes to Troy Murphy and me sulking in a corner when the playoffs are over earlier than the past 2 years.
All that aside. Good Luck Orlando.
Stick a fork in this club, they are well done. Otis Smith needs to be shown the door! He singlehandedly has made this team markedly weaker and no longer a title threat since they were in the finals 2 yrs ago. He is way OVERRATED!
