I wouldn't call it a mistake. We needed a solid guy who could play PG/SG. I remember before the trade he was playing well, and we even lost a game against them early in the season and I think he scored like around 30 points. The bad thing is after the trade, his performance started to drop. Now he looks below average. But then again, had we kept Lewis, we'd probably be sitting right now with him inactive because of injury. I wish Smith looked at other options though. I mean we could've at least tried for Deron Williams. The problem was Otis didn't know that Williams was on the trading block.

I think even with all the problems Gilbert has been having this year, its still a good deal short term because he is playing and Rashard is not. Whether the deal is a mistake long term remains to be seen. If Rashard gets healthy next year and Gilbert plays at the same level he is this year then yes the deal will be a mistake. But, and I admit this is an unlikely but, Gilbert rehabs this coming off season and regains even 85% of the form he had in his prime before the injuries then the trade would be a success for the Magic.
